Using Technology Obj-C, Swift, Audio Streaming

Storytel is a digital subscription service that stream audiobooks to your mobile phone. You download an app to your phone (iPhone and Android) and start a subscription.

The service is reminiscent of Spotify’s service where you pay for a subscription and can listen to how much you want for SEK 169 / month. The books are streamed in the format mp3 and it is possible to put them in offline mode so you can listen even without phone coverage.

Storytel has agreements with almost all publishers in Sweden and can therefore offer its customers in principle every single title that is published as an audio book as soon as they come out in the trade.

In addition, Storytel publishes its own books under the name Storyside. All printed books that are released do not become audio books and sometimes parts of the series are missing because they were only released on CDs. Therefore, we try to fill holes where books are missing and broaden the range at Storytel. At present, there are thousands of titles at Storytel, both in Swedish and English, and more are added every month.

The company was founded in 2005 by Jon Hauksson (System Architect and Chief Developer) and Jonas Tellander (CEO) under the name Bokilur but changed 2007 name to Storytel, primarily to facilitate an international expansion.
